YPHSL 20th Anniversary International Moots Fund

The Ian Taylor International Moots Programme has helped put the SMU Yong Pung How School of Law (YPHSL) on the world map. What started in 2011 as a class of a dozen students participating in four moots has grown to a class of around 120 participating in 25 major moots.

World-class achievements of our mooters, as of April 2026, include:

* 4x world championship finals in Jessup (including the 2025 world championship)
* 7x world championship finals in Vis and Vis East combined (including 3x world championships in Hong Kong, making us tournament leader)
* 6x world championships in the International Criminal Court (tournament leader)
* 8x world championship finals in Price Oxford (including 4x world championships, making us tournament leader)
* 4x world championship finals in Frankfurt Investment Arbitration (including 3x world championships, making us tournament leader)
* 2024 Lachs Space world championship
* 4x championship finals in Red Cross (including 2x championships)
* 4x world championship finals in Fletcher Insolvency (including 3x world championships, making us tournament leader)

These achievements have been made possible only by the generosity of our alumni and supporters, both in terms of coaching and financial support. But to secure the next 20 years of the programme, we must significantly broaden our endowed base so that students and coaches alike do not need to worry about financial barriers to participation. This is consistent with the ethos of the programme: that anyone who wants to moot will be given a chance, regardless of grades, experience, or means. Elsewhere, moot alumni often go on to become leading figures in the legal community, be it Senior Counsel, Supreme Court Judges, or Attorneys-General. Help contribute to SMU's cause to produce such alumni!
